Leaflet has a nice little control that allows your users to control which layers they see on your map. In addition to showing you how to use it, we’ll also show you another handy use for layer groups. This lesson covers the basics of creating an interactive map using the leaflet API in R. We will import data from the Colorado Information warehouse using the SODA RESTful API and then create an interactive map that can be published to an HTML formatted file using knitr and rmarkdown.Show/Hide Layers. The Leaflet package includes functions to show and hide map layers. You can allow users to decide what layers to show and hide, or programmatically control the visibility of layers using server-side code in Shiny. In both cases, the fundamental unit of showing/hiding is the group.
HTML widgets work just like R plots except they produce interactive web visualizations. A line or two of R code is all it takes to produce a D3 graphic or Leaflet map. HTML widgets can be used at the R console as well as embedded in R Markdown reports and Shiny web applications.
